Survey targeting and publishing

Choose devices, timing, throttling, visitor auth, seen notifications and pages for a survey, then publish it.

The Targeting tab decides when a survey appears, on which devices and on which pages. Surveys use the same model as notifications and NPS. You can also load a saved audience to fill the form in one step.

Saved audience

Pick an audience under Saved audience and click Load to copy devices, delays, throttling, visitor auth, seen notifications and URL rules into this survey. Save the survey to keep the changes. Later edits to the audience do not change surveys that already loaded it.

Enable survey

Switch on Enable survey. Published surveys stay hidden until it is on.

Devices

Switch desktop, mobile and tablet independently.

Timing

SettingUnitMeaning
Show delaysecondsWait after the page loads before the survey appears.
Hide delaysecondsHow long the thank-you message stays visible after a response.
Initial delaydaysWait after the visitor’s first visit before showing the survey.
Delay after responsedaysWait before asking someone who already responded.
Delay after closingdaysWait before asking someone who closed the survey.

Throttling

The throttling percentage limits what share of visitors are invited. 50 means about half. The decision is remembered for each browser.

Visitor auth

Choose Anyone, Logged in or Logged out. Logged in / out depends on whether your site called hubbo.identify() after sign-in. This gates embed delivery, not who can open a shareable /page URL. See Identify visitors.

Seen notifications

Gate the survey on whether the visitor already opened the notification widget (the list behind the bell on your site — not Messages). Opening that widget marks the notifications currently listed there as seen in this browser.

  • Must have seen: show only if every selected notification is marked seen.
  • Must not have seen: hide if any of the selected notifications is marked seen.
  • Leave both empty to ignore seen state.

URL rules

Add pages to the whitelist to show the survey only there, and to the blacklist to exclude pages. Whitelist entries can override devices, timing and throttling for that page. Rules accept paths, full URLs, wildcards and regular expressions. See URL matching.

Appearance

  • New surveys inherit Surveys → Appearance defaults until you customize them.
  • On the survey Appearance tab, keep Use account defaults on, or turn it off to set position, colors, labels and thank-you copy for this survey only.
  • Position (bottom center by default), width and corner radius.
  • Colors for background, text, accent, buttons and border.
  • Overlay on or off, and a progress indicator.
  • Button labels (Next, Back, Submit, Close) and the thank-you title and message.

Publish

  1. Preview the survey on desktop and mobile.
  2. Set the state to Published and make sure Enable survey is on.
  3. Open a matching page on your site in a fresh private window to confirm it appears.

Live updates

Publishing, editing or deleting a survey is pushed to widgets that are already open, no site deploy is needed.
